Scientific programme

We have a Graduate Development Scheme, based in our modern production and research laboratories in Theale, Berkshire.

The Scientific Programme is suitable for graduates with a good degree (or equivalent) in Chemistry, or a related subject. It offers structured training over a two year period. The programme covers column manufacture, the development of new products and technical support. There will also be opportunities to gain experience and commercial awareness in our Sales, Purchasing and Marketing departments.

The successful candidates will work with internationally respected scientists and state of the art instrumentation.

Salary and benefits:

£18,000 - £25,000 per annum. The starting salary will be based on experience and qualifications and will be reviewed annually on a merit basis.

Benefits include  23 days holiday plus Bank Holidays (and an extra day for each year of service up to 28 days), a contributory pension scheme, life assurance and flexible working hours.

Qualifications required:

Good Honours degree (or equivalent) / PhD in Chemistry or a closely related science subject.

Essential and desirable skills:

Essential: excellent practical and interpersonal skills, laboratory experience, attention to detail, willingness to learn and the ability to work as part of a team.

Desirable: HPLC experience.

Hours:

38¾ hours per week, Monday to Friday (flexible hours)

Duties:

The position initially involves the manufacture and quality control testing of HPLC columns. From here you will move on to gain additional experience in the more challenging aspects of column manufacture (eg UHPLC, preparative, microbore and capillary) and supporting the development of new products.

There will also be opportunities to gain experience in other areas within the company (eg purchasing, sales, technical support, R & D and quality) and gain an understanding of the relationship between the various departments.

Training:

You will be given a broad base of training over a structured two year period, including comprehensive formal training and hands-on practical experience working as part of a supportive, friendly team.

You will also develop a range of general and leadership skills through formal training sessions in areas such as:

  • Communications
  • Making effective presentations
  • Time management/planning
  • First aid, fire and safety training

You will also have the opportunity to attend courses led by world leaders in chromatography.
